2015 evinrude 250hp and a kicker 15hp high output etec. White in color. Power trim and tilt and electric start with the 15hp. Should be a great set up.

Really? how much is a 250 2 Stroke?

I'll say it again....Once you go 4 stroke.....You'll throw rocks at a 2 stroke and gain valuable space on the boat by not having a oil tank.

Your Money.

I disagree. Like I said in early quotes. I knew I catch u or dale on this. All I can say is every man think there is bigger and better. Maybe I'll open your eyes maybe not but I can assure u that I'm not paying what u paid for a 4 stroke. 17k for the 250 and $3,300 for the 15. Good luck with that 4stroke. Lol what other space are u using for the battery box besides battery's. It will be great for a oil reservoir.

I almost put a 300hp E-Tec on the stern of my boat, came this close ... but maybe you didn't know that. After running the Suzuki, I'm glad I went with the 16" diameter wheel of the Suzi. But I can guarantee you I'd never buy a Yam or Honda 4-stroke. I'd buy the E-Tec 1st over them.

I see more and more E-Tecs on the sterns of older boats, so it looks like they have a good repower option, probably due to the low weight on the older hulls.

Good luck with your new motors!

A few years ago I was representing for Pacific / Black Lab boats, manufacturers of welded plate alloy boats.
The demo boat we had at the time was a 23' center console that wore a 250 Suzuki (with a 30" shaft).

One of the boats I sold went to a local rescue squad and wore a 250 Evinrude, so I had the opportunity to run a pair of nearly identical boats, with Suzuki and Evinrude power.

Seat of the pants impression?
Both motors returned good performance, but the Suzuki was absolutely the louder of the two. Airbox noise maybe?
Not sure why, but at cruise the Evinrude was noticeably quieter.
The Evinrude was also quicker out of the hole and onto plane.

Don't get me wrong, the Suzuki was no slouch, but with a direct comparison possible, the Evinrude got my vote.

Wasn't too sure when the rescue squad chose the E-Tec, but they had local service for it, so that was a big factor for them.
I have to say that when I did our on-water delivery training, the 'Rude made a believer out of me.

We have one of the biggest Evinrude dealers in the northeast in my home town, Atlantic Outboard. I was speaking to one of the mechanics this past weekend and he said since April 1st they have hung 42 new E-Tec's. I would say 60% of the outboard boats in my area are wearing E-tec's. My good friend has a 200 on the back of his Robalo and since buying it new I have been very impressed with the performance when on his boat.
An oil tank in my opinion shouldn't be the deciding factor on your choice of motor
If I didnt have all the Yamaha equipment already on my boat, I would definitely go E-tec when I am ready to repower.

I'm rebuilding a 20 SeaCraft, when its done it will have an Etec on it for the factor of weight alone (plus whole shot performance because I like to go fast 8) ).

They are lighter than the fourstrokes, and most older hulls were not designed to handle the weight of the 4 strokes.

The answer is simple:

E-Tec: Lighter-weight power for lighter hulled boats

Suzuki: Standard 4-stroke weight w/ 16" wheel & gearing to push BIG heavy single-OB powered hulls

;)

IMHO there's no way any other OB can match the push from the bigger wheel geared well. As is my boat only ran 1-mph slower when I had 12 aboard as when I had 2 aboard. Any other OB would have dogged down ...

I have ran an 07 115 etec for years bought it as a demo motor for 8300 and got all the warranty on it. Although I was running on a 20 ft cc aquasport I was getting 3.4mpg at 4000rpms. They are really efficient motors. I would encourage viewers to go on the web site and search etec and discover what there about. I hate when they put them in the same boat as an older 2 stroke cuz there not. They get 48% better fuel then the older 2 stroke and burn 50% less oil then the older 2 stroke. Very quite at idle, burn cleaner then a 4 stroke and at idle it has better fuel economy especial when trolling. There lighter, faster out of the hull. They burn 87 octane and not 89 like some 4 stroke so that 10cents more a gallon. No 20hr break in period. No maintenance for the first 3years or 300hours. It also has a lot of safety factor for running out of fuel and oil to get u back to port when low. I have been thoroughly happy with the 115 etec and hoping to extended that happiness with the new ones. The response time on these engines are amazing and hoping to giving u a read of the engine diagnoses when I get them. Thank you for the support dale and everyone else.

Yes I I sold the old yamaha 225 2 stroke and I was pushing the boat 34mph all trimmed out so I figure 36-38 with the 250 plus it has better propulsion. The boat it's rated for a 325hp so I think it would be plenty for the 14 degree hull. Can't wait to see how she reacts. Especially seeing how the old 2 stroke push her compare to the new one will be great. The guys at the dealership were excited to see it and said that motor will push better than u expect.

It's OK....Glad your Happy.

The one's I've owned. I'm sticking with them. :)

Curious as to your counter rotation Wart. Mine turn the opposite way. Have heard this configuration provides more stern lift. Any truth to that?

Some boats it helps...This boat I saw no gain.

The DF-70 was a '99....It came with the boat...It was abused...IE: left in the water all the time with no flushing. A hole rotted thru the cilinder head and water was getting in the cylinder. There was another cylinder not far behind once it was torn down.

Any and all manufactures would not stand abuse like that. That boat had major renovations, such as a new 3/16in full alum transom due to holes roted thru the hull where the motor made contact.

The boat was owned by a marina and used as a work boat / push boat.

Thanks Have you selected a prop? I don't understand the oil...are you using XD100? Does it make a difference?
yes I'll be using xd100 although with these new motors I have the advantage of using different oil as long as the technician programmed the motor for the intended oil like xd50 or tc3. Prop choice has yet been determined
