Fishing has been a little slower than normal for the beginning of the Rockfish season, but here a few resent photos.

Nice work. Looks like a couple of fatties!

I see you are running planer boards. I probably should have kept mine. I sold them to buy some live lining and chumming rigs. I have only fished opening day this year but hope to get out in the next day or two.

Susqking,

It looks like a pretty good catch to me.

How do you guys fish for them in the Chesapeake?

Blue Sky,
In the spring most people troll for them. I troll 10 lines and use planer boards out 80' on each side (2 rods per board). We try to cover water from 7' down to 35'. I use umbrella rigs w/ parachutes rigged with 9 or 12' shads and tandem parachutes. 10 rods are manageable and is easy to keep them from getting tangled, some charters will troll 30 rods.

The bigger fish which I'm holding came on a chatruese umbrella rig with a 9' shad and an additional 20 ounces of weight (A deep Line)

B-Faithful,
Fishing has been very slow but has been getting better every day. I use planer boards because they work and I love hearing the line pop off the release clip. We have released 1/2 of the fish we caught because of the slot which is ok, but I have seen a few floaters. The big fish had spawned.

I know planers catch fish. Unfortunately I never have a crew to help me enough with them. I am a 1 man show 90% of the time.. They are a great tool though. I just wish I had the crew and time to make use of them.

Glad to hear the fishing is picking up. I had a slow opening day and havent fished since then
