I have a new slip this year for my boat.I wanted to make a nice cleaning table for the dock.I was looking around at pieces of starboard 24x54 and was getting sticker shock.
I looked around the internet an bought a 1/2" 30 x 60 piece of polypropelene for 112 + 13.80 shipping. Now i have a super duper delux cutting table that should last for years.
I bought it at the cuttingboardfactory. The only thing the salesman said was that if I was able to cover it it would not get brittle over time because it is not UV protected like starboard.
If anyone else is looking for something like this,it's a good deal. :D

Another source for plastic is Industrial Plastics. I am putting a 24 inch diameter cover on a live well and went with half acrylic and half poly 1/2 inch thick ( two 12 by 24 inch sheets ) with a ss piano hinge down the center. Including shipping under $40.

For any of you who aren't do-it-yourselfers, Seasucker came out with a nice 12x22 starboard bait cutting table that mounts via their incredible 6" vacuum mount on either the transom wall or directly on gunnel. Attached is link to transom mount and photo attached. If I hadn't recently spent the bucks on a rod holder/gimbel mount unit I would have rather had this and not sacrificed a rod holder...

Holy crap that is a nice job from what i see good work you should sell them!!! I might buy one!!!The other 1 is for the dock side?

Yep the other one is now 24 x 60,my buddy told me I should patent the gunnel one he made me make him one as well.
Buy the stainless screws from home depot an pre-drill,screws are alot cheaper there.

Somewhere in the projects forum are some pics of a cutting board I mounted. The board was purchased at West Marine, and I made a special teak block to mount it with. I can pull the pin and remove the board.

Hey Lucky John: I love your table. The owner of the marina where I keep my boat would not permit me putting a table on the pier. I'm looking at the small table for over the gunnel and that looks interesting except I clean alot of spot in the summer and I need to have the table higher so that I'm not leaning over all the time, i'm fairly tall person and getting old thus need to stand more upright. Any ideas to raise the cleaning board higher than the gunnel?

Sure you can put it in the rod holder, that will raise it up to whatever height you feel comfortable with. They sell them ready made in Boaters World etc,but you'll spend about 79 bucks for a smaller size board.
I bet I could figure out a nice one using PVC pipe and a couple of fittings )

Hey your thinking like your still in firehouse getting everyones brains working have mass production done in a nite tour!!!HaHaHa but the PVC idea will def. work you can even make the 3-rod holder for your rod and reels!!! Ideas Ideas!!!

This is the best pic I have right now of one we built for my fathers 40' Ocean. If you look closely you can see it is mounted in a 90 degree rod holder right in the middle of the transom. The part that is not so easy to see is the mount and the board.

The mount is just a piece of SS pipe that we had a flange about 5 x 6 or so welded to the top at a local fabricator. The board is constructed out of scrap corian counter top material I got for free from a local shop.

You might be able to tell but the heigh of the gunwale and the mount put the board right about belly height which makes it perfect for cutting bait and cleaning fish. I think the board is about 30 x 12 or so.

Might be able to do something similiar on a parker. I have a smaller one in the center transom rod holder on the 2530 but it is not as big or a high.
Also made of corian.

Hey Men/Ladies: Thanks for the idea of raising the height of the cutting board. I think I'll give some of them a try. Now that I am retired I have the time to experiment.

Thanks

Hey Bryan I like your parker it looks sweet up by the beach like that i would love to see pictures on the inside of it!!!Very Very Pretty that ext-cab.Now everyone wants to do those cutting boards someboby patteren that and sell them cause there not cheap if you buy 1 new for the boat, you guys can make few bucks!!!Hey john get cracking brother!!!

I don't have to crack anymore I got 3 over 4 )
I saw the magna table today in local boat shop,it was 99 bucks for a 12 1/2 x 31.

OHHH dont worry i spent the $$$ already,i wish i would have known but if you do decide to sell them i am in for 1

Order the material and have it sent to me and then come pick it up when I'm done.Get it here quick though,I just got back from vacation and will be looking to paint bottom fix my dock and splash soon.I live right outside of LBI and can possbily get it to you as well.

All you have to do is be a west coast guy with a real bait tank and you can make a waist high cutting board any way you want.

This one can sit on the tank.

Or it fits on the rail if you want it out of the way.

A little thought and you can make anything you want. I would make it out of starboard or something similar if you want it to last a long time. Nylon cracks over time.
