Hello
I have a 2005 2520XL. Has anyone out there ever made a livewell out of a portion of the fishbox in the stern of the boat? If you have, I'd love to see the pictures or get some ideas.
Thanks

been brought up before but it seems like either portable or one in the middle of the cockpit is most peoples answer. i asked my dealer and some other boat shops in my area about this and the cost is astronomical like a thousand or more and the bait dont like square so youd have to have the corners rounded off so youd lose alot of that space.

It's so easy on a Parker. Get a good 30 gal or so livewell from Bass Pro. Plumb a livewell pump with 2 discharges(around 1000 gph, at least 750)from your existing high speed p/u. One discharge to livewell, one to washdown pump. Put a hose bib thru a convenient spot on Parker. Simply run a water hose from bib to livewell (Bottom connection only). Cut a hole in top edge of livewell for a thru hull fitting and use 1.5" drain hose to your scupper. Take a smaller piece of PVC about 6" long drill full of holes and cram into thru hull fitting. This keeps bait from stopping up drain.

The weight will hold in place, stays put, easy to remove.

Yup. What he said.

I know guys are getting tired of seeing this pic but, for less than $60 you can have a livewell that works really well and doesn't take up room on the deck when not needed....

Thanks all
The pixs are great. It's exactly what I want to do.

That trash can will turn over, unless you only fish in flat water or jury rig some way to tie it to hull. Yer livewell should be as wide at base as at top and not so tall. Water sloshes violently (no rim around edge) soaking you and fish will splash out.

 OK. If you say so.....

i've been out 160+ mile round trip to the FL middle grounds on the Otherline's 2520. when he first told me what he was planning as far as a livewell goes......i was skeptical. i thought splish splash....watch out, there goes the livewell. well, let me tell you, he puts that thing exactly where you see it in the pics, and it did not move an inch. the lid snaps on tight and the thing is sealed without a drop of water on the deck. you can put a bean bag chair next to it and not get a drop of water on you.

i've got the factory livewell bolted in the center of the cockpit......it looks good and i like it. but mine does splash a little water at the hinge. and, i can't remove it if i want to. after test driving TOL's, IF I DID NOT HAVE THE FACTORY LIVEWELL, I WOULD DEFINITELY GO WITH HIS DESIGN........it is cheap, never lost a bait, stays put, and doesn't splash a drop.

just my 2 cents based on actual use.

amazing, Contender, SeaVee, Yellowfin et al spend thousands designing livewells and all they need is yo mommas garbage can

I never implied that the factory built live wells aren't any good. I was just offering an inexpensive solution to those who don't have a live well.

I will concede that It doesn't "look" very professional and, given the $ I spent on gadgets, you would think I could afford a "real" live well (and I can), BUT I'm not going to spend $200 for a pair of Nike sneakers when I can buy a $20 pair of PF Flyers that work just as well!!! (I just "dated" some of you. Do you remember the jingle? PF Flyers...Run ....? ).

Great Topic and Information.. I already ordered my parts.. they should be here in a day or two.. I only need a live well for the spring and fall.. I love the idea and know many that have made the same..

look at the picture. the outlet is about 2/3rds of the way up the can. that leaves enough room to avoid splashing, as well as keeping the center of gravity low enough to provide stability. ive used similar rigs, they work just fine for not much money. if you use a heavy enough can, it doesnt flex or deform with the weight of the water, and the lid can fit on, keeping splashing down. but im glad you know so much about his rig, maybe you should have told him this stuf before he bought it

I think the can will be fine for me, I only need to use a livewell 2-3 times a year. I think if you keep it as close to the transom as possible, it wont splash that much. I usually just stick the hose in my 150 qt cooler. Talk about sloshing. LOL.

Here's my 60gal I used for bluefish and pogies. Ran it on plane in true 3 to 5 foot seas with no problems on a 23 dvsc.

Now let's see how good you memory is. Do you know what Bosco is?
Do you remember what was "special" about it?

I use a 20 gallon can, been running it for 2 years with no problems. Never has tipped, slid around or slopped out water or fish.
When it gets really rough I will generally secure it with a couple bungie cords thru the handles and off to the stern cleat and a rod holder.
Since I only use a livewell 2 months of the season it's nice to be portable.

ive been live bait fishing for almost 20 years and have seen ONE boat w/a trashcan strapped to swim platform. must be a regional thing, like roller trailers.

agreed, a trashcan half full will not turn over in most seas. a 20 gal trashcan filled w/10 gallons water will support 10 baits. we fish 2 baits per rig or put another way, yer 10 gallon livewell would bait up four rods 1 time (2 left over for lunch   ) it would be worthless.

it must be. because we see it all the time up here.

and i guess your statistic of 10 gallons holding 10 fish depends highly on the bait youre using. because the bait Im using, namely spot, can survive alot more cramped that that. unless youve got to keep them alive for a week, most of the baits i use can be held at concentrations of 4-5 per gallon of water, provided that the water is kept fresh and cirulating at a high rate. so, essentially, a 10 gallon tank could easily hold 30-40 or even up to 50 spot, which is more than enough for my typical day of fishing. in other words, not worthless at all.

Menhaden. I usually can keep 2 nets full (30-35) in my 30 gallon stock Parker livewell before they started getting oxygen depleted. Being born and raised in NC, I have to admit the first time I ever saw a trash can used for a livewell was in this post.

And they say we're rednecks
