Me and the family are headed down to nags head third week of September. May be ify weather but we had great luck last year. Haven't done much fishing down there but just got my 1801 a few weeks ago and looking foward to taking it down with us. Anyone have any advice. Looks like Oregon inlet has a nice ramp but not sure exactly what's good that time of year with little experience down there.

Thanks, Tom

As I understand it the speckled trout & drum fishing soundside around Nags Head/Manteo/Wanchese has been fabulous this year.
I'm pretty much an offshore guy so I'm not much help to you on that.

I do know that besides OIFC you can find a free ramp under the bridge next to Pirates Cove Marina.

One suggestion is to hire a local guide for a half day charter. He'll get you up to speed quick on what works and what kind of water to be fishing. From there you can spend the rest of your trip on your Parker.

Good luck.

That sounds good. I will have to look into the half day and get the lay of the land. Figured trout would be pretty good. Thanks for the input!

Good suggestion to get a local guide for 1/2 day. OIFC can get a little crowded but the nearby islands and Green Island Slough (south / west end around the old ferry docks) is great for specks and reds. DO NOT attempt to exit under the bridge into the ocean unless it is super-calm and you are certain of where you are headed! Get a map or directions there are a butt-ton of shallow spots that look plenty deep from above. The inlet is no place to mess around and the south shoals love to eat boats! Don't forget that the surf is great right now- just before sunrise, cast green (not chartruese) grubs on red jig-heads for great speck action in any breaker-hole you can find. Go by TW's Bait and Tackle, those guys are very friendly and will give you some pointers! Good luck!
