Here we go... Splash day 2014 (finally).
The horrendous rain we have had for the past several days finally passed, and today dawned sunny and almost completely without wind.
The Bay was like glass.
Got to the BOE lot early to prep the boat, and Jim already had her on the trailer and ready to go.
The launch was an uneventful drop-in at the Matapeake ramp, and off I went.
Because of the severe weather the past few days, there were huge pods of debris in the Bay.
Lots of logs, and what looked like remnants of docks, along with general trash, all held in tight pods.
Going out, I ran slow... and saw a DNR police boat watching the Matapeake exit.
Figured he'd pull me over for an inspection, but apparently he liked how I looked and let me pass.
Once I got into the middle of the bay, the debris fields left me and I pushed her harder.
I wanted to see how well my mechanic had worked the motor, and he didn't disappoint.
5200 RPM at a little over 31 knots. Not too shabby for an 18 year old 225hp OX66 pushing 4 tons of boat.
Once I got her in to the creek I opened her up again, and she sung that song. 8)
Put her in the slip... loaded some of her gear on board... and gave her a good bath.
The Admiral and I even had happy hour on board tonight.
Life is good!
