I have been reading alot of the threads on the windlass installs. I am currently trying to decide what type to install. I have a 2520MVSC. I contacted Parker and they are using the Lewmar Horizon 500, but this is no longer commercially available. Do you guys have any recommendations for another model? Is freefall preferred? For those of you who installed a windlass after factory, what did you do with the hatch that your anchor line used to feed into the anchor locker? Can you use this for the windlass mount or not because it is offset from the centerline? Thanks in advance! : :p

i have the lewmar 700 on a 2520 works great, except i wish i had the free fall. I do think you need a 700 and not a 500 . theres already been alot of posts and pics on this subject . As for your offset hole you might luck out depending on what side it offsets. The rode should run center down the pulpit . gl

Not sure what you mean about a 'hatch'. Do you have any photos of the area showing the layout?
Also, what year is your boat?

This is what the fordeck of my 1996 2520 MVSC looks like. No windlass, but I'd like to have one someday. :)

Megabyte, the boat is a 1999 and what i am calling a hatch is the entry to the anchor locker entry point. In your photo, your hatch is in the centerline whereas mine is offset about 1.5 feet from centerline.

We have had other members report the same thing (the offset, that is). :?

Not certain why that is, but there has to be a reason...
I would suggest calling the factory and talking to the engineers on this.
I'm sure there is a way to retrofit a windlass...

Worst case... you (or your dealer) may have to cut out a new pass-through, and use that plug to seal up the old hole.
No big deal for a good "glass guy".
